Emmanuelle Alt style or how to be fashionable without following the latest trend

Honestly, I don’t know why it took me such a long time to write a post about the style of French Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt. I simply love her style and she always provides such incredible inspirations for me. So what makes her style so outstanding? And how to translate the Emmanuelle Alt style into your own wardrobe?

Emmanuelle Alt does not seem to be very addicted to trends. I never saw her wearing pieces like Dior tribal double pearl earrings or Balenciaga cutout boots. And honestly I don’ t expect to see her wearing Birkenstocks or Nike trainers this season. Her style is simple, minimalist and timeless. It relies on strong basics!

Emmanuelle Alt style – The shoes

During fashion week Emmanuelle Alt usually wears strappy sandals, simple heels or ankle boots (most recently Saint Laurent cat boots). Her predominant shoe color is black.

Emmanuelle Alt style – bottom

Emmanuelle Alt exclusively wears pants. Among them she prefers a slightly loose fitting skinny cut. Searching for such a cut, which avoids the pantyhose character of skinnies and the inherent baggyness of boyfriends, I found topshop Baxter jeans (MOTO black Baxter Jeans, topshop.com) to be the best example.

Emmanuelle Alt style – top

On top she wears a T shirt, knit or sometimes mens style shirt all loosely tucked into the pant.

She spices up the whole look with a mens style jacket (predominantly Isabel Marant Baki, Bator, Etta and co.), taylored blazer, trench or leather jacket. Most recently she seams to have gotten into wearing almost all of those styles with a black interwoven leather belt around the waist.

For winter she finishes with a beautiful big scarf, like the Faliero Sarti from L’Eclaireur (Faliero Sarti, “pedro scarf”, leclaireur.com). In 2013 she made the simple black Maison Michel Fedora popular by famously wearing ut during NYF in February. This season she replaced it with a sailors cap, which she wore in Paris during fashion week in march.

Emmanuelle Alt style – jewelry

Usually she wears little jewelry. However, she seams to love her Cartier Tank watch and Love bracelet as well as a Aurelie Bidermann bracelet with turquoise details or Hermes Collier de chien. A classic pair of Ray Ban Wayfers seems to be her sunny day companion. She wears minimal or no makeup and effortles hair. I have rarely seen her wearing a handbag.

I personally hold the strong believe that Emmanuelle Alt provides perfect inspiration on how to build a basic wardrobe, which is great for travel (…to reduce overweight charges..) and can last almost a live time. What’s your opinion?
