Its old news that pearl jewelry made a big comeback this year with the key piece of the season being definitely the Mise en Dior tribal earrings. However, while vacationing in New York I only saw one woman at Bergdorf’s wearing a Dior tribal earring but a huge amount of woman wearing double pearl choker necklaces. So where did the trend originate from?
Sure everyone would say Chanel spring summer 2014 – The “art gallery show”. However, this is not quite right! The idea of the double pearl choker is much older! Karl Lagerfeld presented it for the first time at the Chanel fall winter 2000/ 2001 runway show. At that time it was asymmetric and a little less bulky. The archive piece was worn by Miley Cyrus for last years Bambi awards in Berlin and looked fabulous!
For spring summer 2014 Karl Lagerfeld made two new versions of the 2000 double pearl choker . One symmetric with two magnetic pearls for front closure and another one, inspired by headphones worn around the neck.
Following Karl Lagerfeld’s idea as well as the general trend towards “modern pearls” several designers launched their own version of the double pearl choker this season. I am going to introduce some of my favorite styles of the double pearl choker to you very soon!
