The Waverly Inn NYC

One of my favorite restaurants during our 8 day stay in New York City definitely was the Waverly Inn NYC. The restaurant was recommended to us by several friends, who praised the super cosy atmosphere and delicious food. That said we booked a table via opentable (… so great that so many New York restaurants offer that service) for our last evening.

New York

From the outside the Waverly Inn NYC looks so cosy in this quiet residential side street that you are really looking forward to walk in.

Upon arrival we were totally captivated by the charming exterior with its street facing terrace. Inside the restaurant is structured into 3 areas, a bar with a fireplace, a dining room and a winter garden/garden with another fireplace. As we were instructed by our friends, who had recommended the restaurant back home, to request seating in the backyard winter garden, we asked for a table there (we had already included the request in our online reservation). However, we were seated in the normal dining room, which was nice too. As the menu explicitly reads “No photos!” I couldn’t take any photos inside and can only explain our experience!

For dinner we ordered a salad to start and chicken pot pie as a main course. Both portions were quite big – enough for two in my opinion – and really delicious. I didn’t google the restaurant prior to our visit and just trusted the recommendation. After arriving back home and searching google I was a little shocked finding out that the Waverly Inn NYC is an A-list celebrity spot. I hadn’t expected it to be very trendy at all! The food is kind of American-European comfort food (e.g. Burger) and has nothing of the apparent New York hype for “organic” products, “vegan-vegetarian” eateries, green juice, healthy eating … In Paris, where Burger and comfort food started to become a huge trend I might have expected the celebrity craze – but in NYC it surprises me.

Another thing that surprised me are the average to bad reviews of the Waverly Inn NYC all over the internet. I can’t say anything negative about the staff. Our sever and sommelier were extremely friendly. They answered all our questions patiently, were fast and very attentive. Regarding the price I honestly don’t feel that 26,00 $ are too much for such a huge portion of chicken pot pie. Its even possible to share, at least for two woman!

I can only recommend the Waverly Inn NYC to everyone, who is searching for a charming evening eatery in New York. Do you have any experience with the Waverly Inn NYC?
