Four seasons restaurant New York

Finally, I have a little time to share another experience from our previous NYC trip with you – Our lunch at the Four Seasons Restaurant New York. Actually we had planned to have lunch at La Grenouille prior to visiting the MoMa, but had to find out that it is closed on Monday.  Not knowing another good spot to dine in the region we finally decided to go for the Four Seasons restaurant. Here comes our experience!

Upon entering the complex we passed by a first concierge, who kindly directed us to the upper floor. Here we found another concierge, who showed us the way to the pool room of the restaurant. Everything was formal but friendly. After we had settled down at our table directly at the pool just opposite of the entrance we were a little amazed that we had managed to get that far. After all you can find everywhere that men have to wear a jacket and woman have to dress appropriately (with a pair of cuffed Rag & Bone denim shorts and biker boots I guess I was far from appropriate for that location – OK at least I was wearing a black blazer at the top!). Seems that they don’t take the dress code that serious anymore.

The restaurant itself is a huge and very high room with the pool constantly bubbling in the middle. Seasonal trees decorate all 4 angles of the pool. We were in the restaurant with only 3 more couples, who seemed to celebrate a special event as all of them received the giant pink “special events cotton candy tower” the restaurant is famous for.

Regarding food we both took the Dover sole, which was absolutely perfect. For dessert we asked for a “Four Seasons” soufflé to share, however our waiter an overtly formal French guy promptly answered that its too late to order soufflé we should have ordered with our main course otherwise its not possible. Consequently, we only took a cappuccino and an espresso and left the location soon after.

Well what to say when summing up my experience? I guess I wouldn’t quite recommend Four seasons restaurant New York as a lunchtime spot for a tourist, even not for someone who isn’t afraid of the prices! The whole ambience isn’t casual, romantic, fun or whatever you may be searching for on holiday or off duty during a business trip. However, for a formal business lunch with skirt or pantsuit or a very special dinner it might be a great choice.
