Purity of shape at Dior couture fall 2014

On Monday one of the biggest shows definitely was Dior couture fall 2014. According to style.com and the Dior press release the theme of the show was “across time”. The collection showed influences from so many centuries, which were interpreted in a new and modern way in order to show in one collection how much “…the future is based on the past”. In that way the collection was an extremely fabulous lesson in fashion history. Beyond this almost educational aspect and the beauty of the  looks the show provided a lot of inspirations for the general fashionistas, whose wardrobe isn’ t based on Couture! What are these implications?

  • For spring Dior Couture showed their cool Dior fusion sneaker, which became even available  in store and decorated the feet of some front row guests including Vogue Chinas Angelica Cheung. This season Raf Simons concentrated on the beauty of classic heels and ankle boots. Thus reminding us that the pretty ugly footwear trend is great but likely to be temporarily in nature! Its important not to forget how beautiful a classic, not too high heel is! It should be the fundament of every woman’s wardrobe!

  • While Atelier Versace showed the classic tapered pant Raf Simons went for 3 different versions of straight leg pants. The two wider versions were worn almost floor length and the cigarette version below the ankle – Just a gentle reminder that not every pant has to be cropped. The most classy way to wear pants is still below the ankle! (Particularly in winter when you choose to wear socks I don t feel that its too stylish to wear cropped pants, some shoes and than showing a statement sock. Maybe some people pull it of but in general its a dangerous look better to go for a below the ankle pant!)

  • While I feel that its very cool to push back the sleeves of a jacket or pullover, cuff the pants, tuck in the shirt loosely and often do all 3 things at one time, I was amazed how pretty classy it looked to wear all 3 just down So sleek so slender and so pure. I feel that this collection somehow reminded us to limit our pushing cuffing and tucking efforts to one thing at a time like cuffing the pants, pushing back the sleeves but wearing the shirt straight down!

In his space suits Raf Simons rolled back the sleeves while the pants were worn straight down. Some other looks showed no cuffing or pushing back at all but still looked fab. photos@style.com
