One of the key elements of Vogue Paris editor in chief Emmanuelle Alt s chic minimalist wardrobe seem to be military style jackets. During fashion week back in February she combined an oversized style jacket with white pants and for couture week she showed up in another khaki colored jacket, which she mixed effortlessly with a pair of blue distressed, cuffed jeans. I know at the moment its quiet hot and maybe not the right time to think about shopping for khaki jackets. But as always its best to plan ahead before the best styles have already sold out. So which brands to turn to when it comes to shopping for khaki jackets?
The first name that comes into my mind when thinking about Emmanuelles khaki jackets is Greg Lauren. I started to develop an interest in Greg Lauren designs after seeing his exhibition ^Alteration^ at the Parisian concept store Colette back at the beginning of 2012.
It consisted of classic mens wear garmets, like a 3 piece suit, remade of thin paper! Doesn t sound spectacular? OK sound just like an installation! But the thought behind it is something that touched me deeply! It aims at showing in which way many people use fashion as an envelope. They get dresses in the morning to represent a certain role they want to play in society. The more this game is played fashion looses its inherent potential to help to show the world who a person really is. That said I started to search more and more for Greg Lauren, who happens to be the nephew of Ralph Lauren, and found that he is an actor, artist and has a small ready to wear line for woman and man.

The pieces from his ready to wear line are inspired by classic mens wear tailoring. But they are remade in patchwork technique using parachute, old uniform pieces etc.. They have open seems and holes in an anti fashion way. Although Greg Lauren launches biannual collections his pieces are timeless, which means that you can find parts from older collections on the retail floor as well. Taking this into account I was more than curious to see some Greg Lauren pieces in reality during our recent NYC trip at Dover Street Market NYC as well as Barneys. However, as the price for a Greg Lauren military jacket can easily equal a Chanel I feel that a shirt or t shirt is another great option for a first time purchase from the brand.
What do you think? Do you like army style jackets?
