Trending for fall 2014 – tailored coats?!

Since some seasons coats got bigger and bigger and oversizing started to be all around. This fall things seemed to change a little bit – besides the oversized pieces several leading designers seemed to concentrate more on tailored coats!

Some of the best tailored coats for this fall Louis Vuitton by Nicolas Ghesquière, Dior coats with side lacing by Raf Simons and Saint Laurent coats, all photos @style.com

One of the key components of Nicolas Ghesquière’s debut collection for Louis Vuitton were coats made out of the most luxurious fabrics in the world. All of them were perfectly tailored and had a slightly 60ies spirit. While Raf Simons based his pre-fall collection for Dior on oversized coats he concentrated on tailored styles with incredible lacing effects at the sides for the fall runway collection. Same goes for Saint Laurent where tailored coats ruled the fall presentation.

What’s your opinion? Are you going to go for tailored coats this fall!?

I am more into oversized coats than into fitted ones! The oversized are so much easier to wear, you can layer more underneath and they keep you warmer!

I personally don’t like oversized coats too much. When you have very narrow shoulders they tend to make them look even more narrow. I like a coat to be fitted at the shoulders and not too tight at the rest of the body so that you can layer at least a cashmere sweater and a blazer underneath and still feel comfy! For me one of the best coats still is this Stella McCartney (http://www.mytheresa.com/en-de/wool-blend-coat-326670.html). I have it in navy & its one of the best purchases I ever made!

I agree with Zoe the Stella Mc Cartney one is very much the shape that I prefer! I don’t like any of the above pictured coats: The LV’s contrasting lapel is just awful makes the shoulders look totally rounded and hanging. The Dior is totally unpractical with the 3/4 sleeves and the lacing is too much reminiscent of underwear for my taste. The Saint Laurent has a really strange lapel and looks to be almost skin tight when closed!

I am in line with Zoe and Caro – The perfect winter coat has to be fitting or slightly oversized at the shoulders and straight at the body! Regarding the above pictured coats I also agree and wouldn’t go for any of them!

Yes, I prefer tailored coats (tailored not skin tight). But I agree with the rest here from the above pictured I don’t like any. Saw the Dior lacing coats already in store – Personally don’t understand them. The lacing is so reminiscent of the 80ies thing of underwear as outerwear. Sorry but I feel that Raf Simons had better collections before!
