Trending for fall 2014 – sixties dresses

We already analyzed the fall 2014 trends regarding headgear,  coats and sweaters. What else usually makes  an impression on the runway? For sure the most integral component of most collections – The dresses! Just take Bottega Veneta with an entire fall collection based on dresses. Despite of this runway situation I feel that most people in the streets no matter whether its fashion week street style or just everyday city life rarely buy dresses. Here everything seems to be about separates and pants!  That said I want to keep the dress trend section quite short, because I feel that there is only one major trend called 60ies revival!

sixties dresses

Floating dresses reminiscent of the fashion of the late sixties and early seventies celebrate a huge revival at the moment, photos: Alexa Chung in Burberry fall 2014 (instyle.com), Dafne Fernandez in Burberry fall 2014 (zimbio.com), Naomi Harris in Buberry FW2014, Donna Air in Burberry fall 2014 (redcarpet-fashionawards.com), Olivia Palermo in Burberry fall 2014 (fashionbombdaily.com), Emma Watson in vintage Ossie Clark (puretrend.com), Kate Moss in Saint Laurent spring 2013 (http://lamodellamafia.com)

Ossie Clark style floating dresses with the plunging neckline, the figure hugging waist and the swirling skirts started to become a celebrity favorite within recent times. These softly draped silhouettes give a very romantic, graceful and bohemian spirit. They were the standout piece at Burberry Prorsum and Michael Kors as well as DvF showed a version of that silhouette, just to name a few.

Well for who are these dresses made? To wear them and look good you don’t have to be super skinny, but you should have a certain definition in you shoulder region, which means straight and relatively broad. When the plunging neckline is too deep a top can be layered underneath.

I personally consider these dresses as perfect daytime wear especially for summer worn with a nice pair of Tropéziennes. But as the most recent celebrity craze shows they are also a valuable evening staple!

Whats your opinion? Are you in love with these kind of dresses? Do you love wearing dresses or do you prefer separates and pants?

Yes I agree I also feel that fewer woman buy dresses when I look around me. I personally don’t like dresses or skirts and only wear them on holiday to the beach etc!

I love dresses and wear them often during daytime. For the evening I almost exclusively wear dresses. Although I adore this hippy style shape regarding the whole attitude behind it I wouldn’t go out wearing such a dress.

I also like dresses. Especially for the evening I prefer being in a dress instead of pants. When it comes to dresses I love simple sheath styles as well as the ones with a fitted bodice and a flouncy skirt. Regarding length I adore the ones that hit just below the knee!

I personally favor pants and rarely wear dresses. The hippie dresses are absolutely not my cup of tea, when I have to wear a dress its a sheath dress with a boxy jacket!

I like dresses a lot, but due to practical reasons mainly wear pants. My favourite kind of dresses are the ones with a skater style silhouette. My dream is a black Alaia 🙂

I prefer dresses over pants! But when I look around me I really feel that this is against the current fashion stream, which screams pant suits, denim and sneakers … Ballet flats, a simple black dress (best ones are Dolce & Gabbana) and a trench coat – That’s what I like the most 🙂
