Last week Chanel’s spring summer 2015 ready to wear was presented at the Grand Palais in Paris! For all, who didn’t watch the show video its online here. And as it is often the case with a Chanel show, just think the pregnant Ashleigh Good as a bride at the end of Chanel Couture fall 2014 or the two female brides at couture spring 2013, the faux feminist demonstration that was chosen as a show theme induces a rush of social media discussion that somehow seems to shift the focus away from the fashion that was presented. Let’s do it the other way round! Let’s leave the discussion about sense or nonsense of the show theme to other people and focus on the fashion! What can we expect regarding Chanel jackets for 2015?
Of course we can look forward to a huge amount of classic jackets. The straight, collarless style comes with and without contrasting trim from bolero to short coat length in many different colors.
In another set of jackets the classic shape was equipped with shirt collars. To fully embrace the 70ies theme of the collection and in line with a general trend for spring 2015 collar points were extremely long. This shape might interfere with the timelessness of the pieces and not be very flattering to oblong face shapes.
Classic pocket jackets were equipped with a lapel to build the bridge between classic Chanel style and another theme of the collection “gender equality”.
And of course men’s style jackets in line with the feminist movement! Not totally new, they had already been a major component on the brands spring 2014 runway, but surely not a Chanel classic. Instead a new field to explore for the brand.
As started with the “Chanel Shopping Center” collection that is in store at the moment the brand continues to explore long coats. What looked interesting about them is that Chanel also seems to move away from its signature black lining but explores new lining fabrics thus making the coats as beautiful from inside as from outside and eventually even transforming them into convertible coats that can be worn both ways round!
Finally there were these extremely elaborate coat dresses or playsuits, which especially for the first in the row surely drew inspiration from the shapes from couture fall 2014.
