So we took a closer look on what is going to hit the Chanel stores next March in the field of bags, shoes, jackets – Let’s concentrate on the costume jewelry for spring 2015 now! As the topic of the show was the imaginative Parisian street “Boulevard Chanel” diversity, like we see everyday in the street, was a major component of the show. All the models wore different shades of nail polish, different makeup and yes a huge amount of different jewelry …
We had a big Chanel chain link necklace for fall on the grocery runway (view it here). And yes it was something that stimulated some brands to follow among them Zara and Dior, who introduced their versions of the style. Despite of that Chanel is going to launch a new version of its chain link necklace for spring 2015. It is inspired by the tie dye pattern from the collection and was presented in a pink-orange as well as green-blue alteration on the runway. And for all those, who can’t get enough of the chain – belts and bracelets will be launched as well!
What about pearls? Do you remember when I reported on the Chanel art gallery book by Steidl, which shows all the artworks designed by Karl Lagerfeld, that lined the summer 2014 runway? One of my favorite artworks was “The falling pearls”. It mainly resembles a huge CC on a wall. The CC is filled with pearls but not all of them stay in place. Many have already fallen out and cover the floor in front of it. In the post I wrote at that time I interpreted it as a departure from old traditional times and the opportunity to start new. Having a look at the pearl jewelry from the new collection I have a little bit of mixed feelings whether its really starting new. Big cuff bracelets with one or two rows of oversized pearls came in black and silver and somehow had a technical minimalist component that looked pleasing. However, one strand, tight pearl necklaces with double C shown in pink, green and white, looked more conservative than surprisingly new. Same seems to be true for the Métiers d’Art style layering of multiple pearl necklaces.
Than of course there was logo mania in two versions. One set came in the form of bracelets, belts and even a necklace with the full brand name written in letters instead of a double C logo. The other set payed reference to Number 5.
The brands signature interwoven chain was reinterpreted in the form of cuffs with brightly colored leather.
In another set of accessories the collections tie dye pattern was reinterpreted with colorful Swarowski stones.
…and the next set payed tribute to the concrete theme of the July couture presentation for fall 2014 (some pics are here).
And then suddenly we had butterflies! Almost a reminder of the Art Nouveau movement!
… and yes, some Chanel slogan bracelets didn’t make it onto the runway. But in line with the brands “feminist riot” theme they will surely hit stores in March as well!
The fun thing about that huge amount of accessories is that while everyone is talking statement, asymmetric earrings at the moment Chanel didn’t show at least one earring on the runway. They continued to focus on necklaces, brooches, bracelets and belts!
Whats your opinion? Too many different styles resulted in an incoherent show? Or do you like that the brand offers its customers so many choices?
