Chanel Salzburg, the brands annual Métiers d’Art collection, will be presented at Leopoldskorn castle near Salzburg tomorrow! As usual one day in advance of a Chanel presentation I try to sit down and think about how the upcoming collection might look like!

This time we do not only have the Karl Lagerfeld sketched invitation and the location of the show that give us some hints. We also have the accompanying video featuring Cara Delevingne and Pharell Williams.

• The show is going to be staged at a Roccoco castle in Austria, which makes references to Austro-Hungarian monarchy dressing likely. In particular male military uniform jackets typical at that time might have provided strong inspirations for the upcoming collection. The iconic Chanel jacket has been invented in 1954! This year is the jackets 60ies anniversary, providing a strong hint that the collection will be a lot about jackets!
• Its likely that the Edelweiss flower, which is so typical in the Austrian alps, will inspire costume jewellery as well as button design in the same way the thistle, one of the symbols of Scotland, did in the 2012 Paris – Edinburgh collection. Besides the more simple Edelweiss flowers that adorned Cara’s hair in the new short film a more sophisticated star abstracted version of the flower with sparkling stones might appear within the collection thus referencing the more than famous “Sisi stars”, which had been made for the empress by jeweller A.E. Koechert in the 1850ies.

• Will the collection be about maxi skirts or tightly fitting men’s style pants reminiscent of uniforms? Let’s see!
• Regarding shoes I bet for flat knee high boots further underlining a certain military vibe!
