Chanel Salzburg collection – there is more than just bags …

Upon hearing Chanel the things that immediately start crossing one’s mind are bags, jackets, pearls, ballet flats, espadrilles. However, as a Chanel collection is strongly based on separates this is rather where it stops than where it begins! So let’s continue and have a look at knitwear, tops and bottoms from the Chanel Salzburg collection, which is going to hit stores next May!

Ever since Chanel purchased Barrie, the Scottish cashmere mill, at the end of 2012 knitwear has been an integral part of the Chanel collections. A heavy knit is priced around EUR 2,000.00, roughly half of a jacket, thus making it an entrance product for younger clients with an interest in Chanel ready to wear. For the Chanel Salzburg collection Karl Lagerfeld continued with very classy knitwear. Cashmere sweaters came with heavy turtle necks, which seemed to be attached to the garment rather than being removable as it was the case for the grocery themed fall 2014 collection. In line with the royal court meets traditional Austrian dress spirit of the show some of the sweaters were equipped with ruffled trumpet cuffs as well as floral decoration.

Another integral part of Chanel collections are the shirts and tops, just think Paris Dallas pocket shirt or the incredible tail shirt from cruise Dubai. With a price point comparable to knitwear, shirts are another fabulous item to start incorporating a little Chanel into one’s wardrobe. Compared with the Boulevard Chanel spring 2015 show the Chanel Salzburg collection was much less about showing off the shirts. Although hidden underneath the jackets some features of the shirts could be recognized. Its likely that many of them are going to come in a modular way with detachable ruffle collars and cuffs. Several shirts had beautiful pleating details paying homage to Chanel’s pleating specialist Atelier Gérard Lognon. My absolute favorite at the moment is a simple white shirt with a standing collar and a paneled crochet detailing at the front.

For the bottoms the Chanel Salzburg collection continued the “feminist” theme of the Boulevard Chanel spring 2015 show and focused strongly on pants. The pants, which drew inspiration from the die stripes of Austrian uniforms came with wide legs in several colors and fabrics.

What’s your opinion? Are you solely interested in Chanel bags, jackets, espadrilles and the likes or do you love to have a look at the less obvious pieces like knitwear too?
