Christmas is officially behind us and I feel that its time to sum up the year 2014. About a year ago I started writing my blog and I really have to admit that it enriches my life enormously. Despite of that, 2014 marks the end of the blog in its present structure. Considering advise of several friends I am going to discontinue the „beauty“, „interior“, „food“ and „travel“ sections to concentrate solely on fashion! However, the content from the discontinued sections will continue to be available on the page! Ok, but what I really want to do today is reflect on what happened in fashion in 2014!
What about trends? In the field of jewelry earrings have been the center of attention. Double stud’s, lots of pearls, assymmetric styles, mix and match are just a few trends of 2014. The ultimate icon of the year – of course Dior tribal earrings! Lets see whether “Dior tribal earrings 2015 – The icon” or “Dior tribal earrings 2015 – the fall of an icon” will become a hot topic!
2014 has been the year of active wear as ready to wear. This tendency became most obvious in the shoe department. The hot topic was sneakers, in particular Adidas Stan Smith.
2014 marks the year of the return of one of my favourite fashion designers – Nicolas Ghesquière. At the beginning of March he presented his incredible fall 2014 collection for Louis Vuitton in Paris, in May there was a beautiful cruise in Monaco and in September the incredible spring 2015 collection staged inside the newly opened Frank Ghery designed Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. All of these collections featured the coolest skinny and fllared high waist pants on earth as well as the trunk turned bag „La petite malle“.
While one great designer returned another was announced to depart. In December 2014 Gucci officially revealed that fall 2015 will be the last collection by Frida Giannini. Riccardo Tisci, the Givenchy designer and long term Kim Kardashian friend, as well as Joseph Altazurra are discussed to be hot candidates to take over Gianninis function at the helm of Gucci in 2015.
Regarding shopping the „digital revolution“ and the rise of e-commerce continued. According the daily telegraph about 1/3 of UK consumers make at least 1 purchase via mobile each month.
So what about fashion economy? 2014 was a very difficult year. Major brands including Gucci, Prada and Louis Vuitton were hit hard triple fold according to the Financial Times. A shift in the taste of European and US consumers away from the ultra obvious logo towards more rarified products, governmental changes and a slower growing Chinese economy as well as heavy competition from the mid market resulted in reduced growth in the sector.
With this review on 2014 in fashion I want to thank all my readers for visiting my blog. I wish you all the best for the new year and hope to welcome you again January 7th 2015!
