Prada flatforms – The rise of an icon

Prada flatforms seem to be one of the brands icons. Only very recently blogger Leandra Medine chose wearing a pair of Prada creepers while attending Stella McCartney’s pre-fall 2015 presentation. This choice is particularly outstanding because Stella McCartney has a very coveted pair of flatforms, the so called Elyse, too. So lets go a little back in history and see how the Prada flatforms trend evolved!

Until around 2003 Prada shoes were famously simple and elegant. They neither had platforms nor chunky heels! They were exactly those simple pointy heels we still see in Prada stores or the online shop today (Have a look at these shoes here – its worth it!). Besides that Prada, who happens to be owner of brogues maker Churches, has always made itself a name for introducing masculine footwear for woman.

As early as 2003 Prada started to shift away from the simple conservative elegance towards a more intellectual focus. For spring 2004 they introduced their first flatform – this time around a sandal!

Finally, in spring 2011 the trend took off. Prada flatforms were introduced for men and woman as a slightly weird hybrid of Oxford shoes, sneakers and espadrilles.

Ever since Prada made platforms on the runway a brand signature and reinterpreted the original 2011 style season after season thus making it a timeless icon of the brand.

What do you think? Do you prefer the simple classic brogues style without the platform or do you like the trendy flatforms?
