Last week I was amazed to read one of the best articles I had seen in the US Vogue since quite some time. The topic was #itbag2015 (check out the full article “It bag hall of fame: A history of the most coveted accessories”). Here the author shows honestly how the industry made use of the fact that bags are the accessories that are closest to a womans heart thus turning fashion industry into an almost only bag business. Yes there are the several decade old icons, like Kelly, Birkin, LV Speedy or Chanel flap but thats not where it stops. Even after 2000 new It bags evolved – one of them the Celine nano luggage tote. Let’s track the development of the Celine nano luggage tote a little bit to find out more about the bag!
The Celine luggage tote bag series was first introduced for spring 2010 shortly after the brand had appointed Phoebe Philo as new creative director. As always when something new hits stores it wasn’t an immediate hit. But anyway by the end of the year I personally started to like the bag a lot. Its classic, almost a little vintage and the best thing about it is that it is a tote which can be closed with a zipper. So there is no need to be afraid of pickpockets or bag content falling out when going through security control at the airport. However, immediately after I had bought the mini luggage tote, its slightly confusion mini is still a big bag, I recognised that it is incredibly heavy. Soon after I sold it to a friend.
However, with the current trend of shrinking traditional large bags, like totes and bowling bags … to mini size to adjust them for a day around town or an evening, I finally started reconsidering the Celine luggage tote.
What do you think 10 seasons after the initial launch, several price increased and quite a huge amount of people carrying the Celine nano luggage tote around – is it still worth the investment? Or do you feel its better to search for alternatives?
