Are Chanel sneakers still trending in 2015???

Last week Couture collections were presented in Paris so its high time to have a look at the street style and track some IT products. Yesterday, I wrote about Dior’s embroidered swim shoes, the Dior fusion sneakers, which had been initially presented a year ago on the couture runway. Today Dior has 11 different models of these shoes in stores and they still seem to be a hot topic. But do you remember that there was another high fashion brand jumping into the sneaker business at the same time?

Exactly! It was Chanel. About a year ago they showed a Couture collection heavily based on delicate lacy sneakers and surprised us with a flashy fabric makeover of the shoes on the fall ready to wear runway.

In September 2014 these colorful Chanel sneakers called the Chanel baskets were pre-launched at Colette, the Parisian temple of everything hip, and in the Chanel boutiques the sales assistants told their customers about how hard these shoes are to get. During September fashion month each and every valuable fashion personality wore them. So how does the story continue?

In December 2014 Chanel launched a logo heavy alteration of its now IT sneakers with the cruise collection. In the high end shopping streets of fashion capitals like Paris you see flashy Chanel baskets on the feet of shoppers. However, surprisingly Le Bon Marche, the Parisian left bank department store, still has a left over of the Chanel fall 2014 baskets on display right now and showgoers during couture presentations avoided the style last week. What about the cruise version of the shoes you might ask? I spotted only one woman wearing them for couture presentations giving the feeling that the hype is about to fade.

So well it somehow feels that the Chanel sneakers are more of a one season wonder than a lasting fashion trend! What do you think about them?
