2014 surely was the year of the sneakers. They emerged from streetwear and entered high fashion. When we forget the ultra expensive take on the trend from brands like Chanel and Dior the question to answer is Adidas or Nike?
Well, I feel Nike was first. Their Nike Free running shoes started to become the ultimate shoe to wear at the beginning of 2014. Later the same year Adidas was taking over with the relaunch of the Adidas Stan Smith tennis shoes in January 2014. Over the course of 2014 Adidas Stan Smith they really appeared on the feet of all my favorite style icons like French Vogue’s Geraldine Saglio, Caroline de Maigret and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
As 2014 came to a close the basic Stan Smith disappeared from store shelves. Two new limited editions, namely a polka dot collection in collab with Pharell Williams and a continuation of the Raf Simons line, were launched at the beginning of 2015.

But flipping through couture week street style pictures none of the special editions seemed to have caught the heart of showgoers. The new Adidas IT sneakers seem to be Adidas Superstar!!!
The first special edition of the Adidas Superstar – the so called Adidas Consortium Superstar 10th anniversary “Adi Dassler” kicked of at the end of January.
And a lot more limited editions, including a collab with Japanese avantgarde designer Yohij Yamamoto, are on their way.
What do you think will 2015 be the year of the Adidas Superstar?
