Skate shoes trend – safe or splurge?

No matter whether its the it piece of the season or a timeless classic, fashion wise we are living in a time of choices. We can shop for look alike items in almost all price ranges. Which makes me come back to the skate shoes trend for a third time in a line. This time to talk about more affordable alternatives to the Celine, Givenchy and Saint Laurent styles!

Of course talking more affordable skate shoes the first brand that jumps into mind is VANS. They are the true original! And they have a really huge selection of colours and textures.

Besides VANS TopShop has some rather interesting styles including an ankle hight skate shoe Chelsea boot hybrid on offer.

Finally there is Rivieras. Their shoes are kind of a hybrid between the sporty California cool skate shoes and the European Mediterranean summer sunshine espadrilles, which makes a good mix for me. Ever since I discovered their Paris Marais store last year by accident I love the brand a lot. As Rivieras still seems little known this brand might be the best choice to keep up with the current trend while still maintaining a sense of individuality!

Whats your opinion. Skate shoes are very casual shoes, which made their way up from street wear into high fashion in recent times. So the number of occasions to wear them might be limited. Do you see them as a splurge item or a safe item?
