Lake Como inspirations

Hallo my lovely readers,
I know I’ve already ‘spammed’ you with tons of photos from our August 2016 road trip on instagram lately. However, upon asking you whether there is still something left that you would like to hear about in further detail many expressed an interest. So this is supposed to be the first post in a series of three, which will be dedicated to the regions we visited. But enough of the introductory talk lets start with Lake Como.

Lago di Como

Although we arrived by car from Munich I guess it might be most convenient to fly to Milano and combine Lake Como with a city trip. I mean Como is only about an hour from Milano by car!

We chose Bellagio as our home base at Lago di Como. But be warned its not that easy to reach. You have to take an one hour ride along the curvy coastal road. However, as it offers stunning views above the Lake its not that bad though. We chose to stay at the beautiful Villa Serbelloni (For more details on the hotel check my TripAdvisor review) right in the middle of Bellagio.

We had planned three full days, which might be a little too short depending on your activity level. The Lake Como is served quite well by the ferry boat so its not too difficult to access some  of the neighbouring villages and of course villas across the lake.

What I enjoyed the most about Lake Como is the architectural diversity. Close to the lake there are lots of villas some functioning as hotels today. Particularly after the tons of day tourists have finally left the atmosphere gets very elegant and upscale here. However, as soon as we entered the cobbled and often staired backstreets we felt a complete change in the atmosphere. The facades of the houses were more simple, yet bright and colorful. For us this was the perfect area to search for cute restaurants to enjoy a beautiful Italian dinner.

The first one on my restaurant list was Trattoria San Giacomo, guess you know that one from pinterest. Although its definitely a very photogenic place I have to admit that its not a must dine. If you want to know more check my TripAdvisor review. For our second and third evening we went for smaller establishments off the main tourist road and really felt that we got a little more value for money.

Has any one of you ever been to that region? How was your experience? Would love to hear your thoughts,

XOXO Andrea
