There is a very popular procedure that repeats itself time and time again in fashion industry. An innovative piece is launched by a brand and popularised by media. Sooner or later the market is flooded with lookalikes, many cheaper but also some at the same or slightly lower price level. So its nothing different with Dior’s iconic tribal earring – you know the one with one pearl on the earlobe and the other behind! The one Alexa Chung wore perfectly well for a Valentino dinner earlier this month.
In the Justine Picardie written biography “Coco Chanel – Her life” it is said that while being in Venice Chanel thought about woman bathing in the lagoon that they would have looked so much better if they would have worn their pearls in the water, the element where they originated from. Well I don’t quite agree with her, because the salt water destroys all kinds of jewelry within a few days, but I feel that there is no better season to wear pearls than in summer with a slight tan! And this season we are happy enough that pearls are a huge trend, particularly when it comes to double pearl designs. So where to get some of the best pearl pieces this season?
Dior tribal earrings, Sophie Bille Brahe Ellipse earrings and Delfina Delettrez banana shapes are cool but somehow already a little bit of old news. Taking inspiration from Emma Watson’s recent appearance at the Valentino couture show I strongly feel that the close to the ear double pearl styles might be succeeded by more hanging double pearl shapes in recent times.
Just a short flashback – The Dior tribal earrings first hit retail floors around June 2013 as part of the pre-fall collection. However, at the couture presentations in July 2014, over one year later, they still seemed to be a favorite choice among front row guests! Want to get some styling clues on how they wore them?
Everyone, who knows a thing or two about Christian Dior, the heritage brand owned by the LVMH luxury conglomerate and modernized under the creative direction of Raf Simons, might have heard about their series of campaign videos entitled “Secret Garden”. The videos lensed by Inez and Vinoodh usually show the brands pre fall collection against the backdrop of the Château de Versailles. In 2014 we are in season 3 of “Secret Garden”! I personally like the videos a lot. They have something surreal, fairy tale like so reminiscent of Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland.
The Dior tribal earrings price is a question of debate. While the Dior homepage officially says 270 EURO for the initial pearl Mise en Dior tribal earring, 310 EURO for the kautschuk coated Gum Tee shirt and the metal Dior Tee shirt, resale prices on ebay and co. can be much higher. While in Paris about 2 weeks ago I found a store in the Marais, which offered an almost look alike earring for 29 EURO!!! Obviously its fake!?
Its almost one year since Dior’s iconic white double pearl earrings hit stores. They were followed by the more edgy rubber finish Dior gum tee shirt and the metallic Dior tee shirt earrings. However, honestly I start to get a little bored of seeing them everywhere around and begun to wonder how the next earring hit from Dior might look like.
The Dior tribal earrings, which were designed by Camille Miceli and first hit stores around June 2013 are old news already. Are they still trending in May 2014?
The Dior double pearl earrings are around since quite some time. To be exact they date back to Dior’s pre fall 2013 collection.
