Lake Como inspirations

lake Como

Hallo my lovely readers,
I know I’ve already ‘spammed’ you with tons of photos from our August 2016 road trip on instagram lately. However, upon asking you whether there is still something left that you would like to hear about in further detail many expressed an interest. So this is supposed to be the first post in a series of three, which will be dedicated to the regions we visited. But enough of the introductory talk lets start with Lake Como. Continue reading

Beyond the Irving Penn exhibition @Palazzo Grassi, Venice Italy

Its been a while since my report on the Irving Penn exhibition at Palazzo Grassi in Venice. And its almost two months ago that we had visited Venice (…unbelievable how fast time passes by!). But I don’t want to forget to recommend the second collection of art works that is presented besides the Irving Penn exhibition at Palazzo Grassi until end of this year. The exhibition is entitled “The illusion of light” and deals with all possible ways to alter the human perception with the help of light. It includes a huge amount of fabulous installations – Here are my 3 favorites:

Irving Penn – Resonance @Palazzo Grassi in Venice Italy

Besides its canals and pigeons for me Venice is primarly a city with an incredible contemporary art scene. Miuccia Prada’s Fondazione Prada is housed in a waterside Palazzo facing the Grand Canal. Kering founder François Pinault (Kering, former PPR (Pinault-Printemps-Redoute) is the investment group, which owns Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Stella Mc Cartney etc..) hosts changing exhibitions at the two venues Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana. We were happy enough to have the chance to visit the incredible “Irving Penn – Resonance” exhibition at Palazzo Grassi, which was also reported on in French Vogue.

Kim Kardashian Venice holidays – Did she really skip the Grand Cafes on Piazza di San Marco?

I guess Kim Kardashian is one of the most talked about persons at the moment. And celebrities are highly important to drive customers into a particular restaurant, club or whatever establishment! While on Piazza di San Marco in Venice Italy a few weeks ago I couldn’t help but think of Kim Kardashian Venice holiday photos (Don’t get me wrong I am not a big fan of her or her style! I just remembered them.). A public appearance of Kim and Kanye is usually highly planned – nothing is left to chance! She wore Dolce Gabbana to honor the country, he bought her a red rose, which looked so great with her white dress. They visited a store, likely to be Dolce Gabbana. But stop I had never seen a photo of them enjoying a drink at one of the Grand Cafes! Did they have particular reasons?

Dinner @Taverna la Fenice during Biennale di Venezia

Are you among them happy ones who visit the Italian city Venice between June 7th and November 23rd 2014? Congratulations you have the incredible option to visit the Biennale di Venezia, which is curated by Rem Koolhaas this year. As the city usually gets quite crowded at the time of the Biennale die Venezia you might need a few good restaurant tips. Here comes a short review of Taverna la Fenice, which we chose as an evening location on the second evening of our recent Venice trip.

I immediately fell in love with the raw vegetables served as an appetizer.

Venice Biennale 2014 side programm – top sights, cosy cafes and fabulous views

For all, who are happy enough to visit the Venice Biennale 2014 here is some inspiration on what to visit besides the pavilions. On our second day we left our fabulous hotel Centurion Palace late, because we extended the breakfast into some kind of brunch. We strolled along the Zattere waterfront promenade in the morning sun enjoying the view towards the Giudecca island…

Past meets present @ Louis Vuitton Espace Culturel Venezia

Only two years ago Louis Vuitton opened its new flagship in Venice, which of course includes the brands art space Louis Vuitton Espace Culturel Venezia. The store as such was designed by the American architect Peter Marino and offers the whole product range on 4 floor (ground floor luggage and handbags, first floor mens wear, second woman’s wear and third floor book shop and art space – as far as I remember). The third floor, which was my favorite, has a beautiful loft like character with sofas to sit down and browse the huge book selection. Just the perfect counterbalance to the overcrowded street leading to St Marks square.

From Venetian heritage into Carlo Scarpa’s contemporary world and back

After we visited Palazzo ducale Venice on our first day in Venice Italy we did what all the tourists usually do – Explore the historic city walking along some calli, crossing bridges and finally ended on a picture perfect Piazza. There a beautiful green lacquered early 19th century store front caught our eyes. It belonged to the very lovely pastry shop “Pasticceria Bar Rosa Salva”, where we enjoyed some venetian biscotti.

What to do in Venice? – Visit Palazzo ducale Venice like all the tourists do?!?!?

When talking about holiday memories I often hear people saying we visited all the typical sights. They mean in Paris the Eiffel tower and Louvre and for sure in Venice Piazza San Marco and the Palazzo ducale Venice. However, these are just sights, tourist attractions on the one hand. On the other hand some of them are world cultural heritage and an integral part of our western community. But are they typical for a city?

Centurion Palace – our hotel in Venice

Last Wednesday we just returned from our short trip to Venice Italy. I had visited the city a few times before but never stayed in a city hotel before. Once my visit was a one day stop during a Mediterranean cruise and the other two times I stayed at the Lido. This time we had booked the Centurion Palace hotel in Dorsoduro.
