Do you need a sweater for this fall? After analyzing some of the major trends, like utility fabrics (parachute at Christopher Kane, neoprene at Balenciaga or mesh at Stella Mc), high end materials (like leather at Milly, mink at Gucci or embroidered lace at Mary Katrantzou) or oversizing (as seen at Celine, Prada and Stella McCartney) its time to sum up! Here comes my sweater shopping list for fall 2014!
Since several seasons it feels that the good old tightly fitting cashmere pullover is a little out of fashion. Oversizing slowly started to find its way into the runway shows and seems to hit a peek for this fall! So what to keep in mind when shopping for the perfect oversized sweaters this fall!!!
Gruyère sweaters on the Chanel grocery catwalk, a ladder sweater shown at Sister by Sibling and a whole collection dedicated to knitting and runners at Comme des Garçons! Feels that 90ies deconstructivism has a huge moment for fall!
For a long time sweaters or sweatshirts were seen as sporty and casual wear. However, with the new movement of sportswear as ready to wear they slowly started to become a real competitor of the classic jacket. This season they receive a super luxurious treatment!
So let’s continue with the fall trends. After we analyzed the outerwear trends in detail I feel its time to concentrate on another key item of any cold wether wardrobe – its a sweater! And while cashmere is always a classic choice – I feel that with the advent of sportswear-as-ready to wear neoprene sweaters or mesh jumpers are an off the moment choice. Let’s find some brands that played with this trend for fall!
Yesterday Chanel cruise Dubai was presented. A little similar to Métiers d’Art Paris Dallas Karl Lagerfeld fused the spirit of Dubai with the Chanel heritage. As typical for a Chanel show there were so many different shapes, patterns, colors and decorative elements in the show that its really hard to name some favorites.
Pants ruled the Chanel cruise Dubai runway with shapes ranging from palazzo over straight and cigarette towards cuffed harem pants. A lot of white pants were present and gave the collection a little bit of Riviera spirit. One of the most adorable pants might have been a white slightly cropped straight pant with 3 little buttons and decorative, cobalt blue embroidery at the ankle. I guess the same pant style was also sent down the runway in black and cream with more simple buttons.
