Birkenstocks and other sandals with a health footbed are going to be a big trend for the upcoming summer. Its easy to wear them if you are extremely tall and super skinny, like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. But for the average woman chances are that you look more bucolic and rather stylish. Here is a short list of my tips to rock the Birkenstock sandals trend:

• Birkenstock sandals communicate comfort over style – which is great because it looks like you are not trying too hard to look stylish. But be careful not to look like a farmer! Mix it up wear them with a minimalist pantsuit and an oversized wool coat.

• What about a skirt? Definitely cool to mix them with an elegant mini skirt. But please triple check your legs!!!! I think most woman and with most I also mean the 16 years old or something won’t have the right legs for that look! • Birkenstock sandals and socks?! This is a difficult question to answer. Maybe some months ago I would have screamed “No” immediately, but after seeing the below photo of fashion blogger, Garance Dore I somehow changed my mind a little. I think its possible to make Birkenstocks and socks work – its mainly a question of blending the colors well. Socks and shoes should not contrast (like beige sock – black Birkenstock) instead they should blend (like black Birkenstock – charcoal sock).

• Start wearing your Birkenstocks barefoot – Its the safest. A great pedicure (My favorite of course is red!!) is an absolute must!!!!
